Thing 23

I did it!!! i don't know how much of this I will continue to use. Some of the sites i found to be really helpful and will use in the summer & winter reading programs. Del icio us was great. I love being able to access my bookmarks from any computer. The Big Hugs and toon do sites were a blast. Those I will probably use a lot more often. I hope everyone who is doing this project gets something useful out of it. I realize that not all of those who are participating will be able to have the time to do a lot of these after we are finished, but some of them could make life a little easier.

Thing 22

This was for the most part a lot of fun. Some of the sites i will be using to create different things for Summer Reading. The trading cards and certificates look like they could really work out nice. I want to continue to do the blogg and add more things when I come across them. Some of the other sites we looked at I am already a part of like flicker, and I use Im and text messinging pretty much everyday. For me it is any easy way to keep in touch with my kids. At least then I know I can get information to them even though they are seldom at home.

Thing 21

I did go onto NING and tried to get the badge to dowload, but it would not work. When I try tp paste it to my blog, it gives me an error. Can anyone tell me how to get this to work?

Thing 20 Myspace

I don't see how this is really usefull for us. For one, you need to have the staff and time available to set up sites like this as well as maintain them. Some of the aspects could be usefull such as a book list of new items, or upcoming events. I can see it might work better at a bigger library, where they have the staff to do this, but in a small library, it just is not practical.

Thing 20 Facebook

This one I did just because it was one of the requirements. I personally do NOT like these social network sites. They are too open to everyone. I don't feel comfortable letting people see what I am doing all of the time. I prefer to use e-mail and IM to talk to my freinds.

Thing19

I used yahoo for finding a podcast. It is really easy to use and it is one I am familiar with. I choose this cast because I like Alice Cooper. They didn't have the song I wanted, but this one will work too.

Thing 18

I chose this clip, because I thought it was cute. I like the Wallace & Gromit cartoons and this was one that was similar. As far as YouTube I generally don't go to this site. It does have some great things, but there are also things that I don't want to see. This is a site that if you have kids using you need to be watchful of what they are getting into.

Thing 18

Thing 17

This is a tool that I use already. It is really useful to students who are looking for specific topics. I know we have shown kids how to use many of the databases that are available. We have also shown teachers that this tool is also available. We are lucky to have a few of our teachers that want to encourage their students to use these resources that are available.

Worldcat I use all of the time just to check and see if different items are available, and where they might be found.

This is a tool I recomend that others become familiar with.

Thing 16

This looks like a great tool for students and teachers, I just don't really see how effective it would be in a Public Library setting. This is one I would be willing to introduce to some of our teachers and their students.

Thing 15

This was great!!! The pirate game was a blast. It is on the same version as runescape working with everyone online. It can get a little confusing until you figure out what it is you need to do, but overall a lot of fun. This is one I just might contine to play.

Thing 14

Library thing is a really cool site. There is another site that is like this it is goodreads.com You can enter the books you have read and rate them. Your friends can also add books they have read and rate them. Everytime your friends enter new books they have read, you will get an e-mail letting you know what they have read and what they thought of the book. It may be another site some people want to check out.

Thing 13

This one was interesting. I already have yahoo set up as my home page, so I didn't have to do anything there. You can also do the same type of layouts on MSN and other provider sites. I did mess around with backpack a little. This one got tagged for use in the future. It is great to be able to have all the information you need on one page and not have to wonder if you have everything you needed. DidI forget something? Is this the right place. How do I get to my destination? I love it!!

Thinng 12

I can see where this type of site would be a useful tool to find specific information you are looking for. It takes the most popular sites and articles and puts them all in one place for you. The only thing I can see that may be a problem if you are not aware of it is the accuracy of some of the content. I know it is not any different than what we are dealing with now by looking up information. People just need to be aware of the sources of the information.

Thing 11

I did set up a delicious account. I love the idea of being able to access my bookmarks from any computer. I have run into the problem in the past where I had found a great site, but went to someone elses house and couldn't find it back. With this tool, I can now log into my favorite sites from anywhere. I love it!

Thing 10

The wiki sites aare great for coordinating events and plans, and even for general information. I don't feel real comfortable with changing somebody elses pages, but I can see where at times it could be very useful. I did go to the 23 things wiki, but I just posted a comment.

Thing 9

This one was fun. The only problem was that you do need to sing up for an account in order to get permission to edit these documents. Not that big of a deal, but a little confusing at first.

Thing 7-2

I can see where the IM reference would be a good idea, but it really doesn't work for thoses of us in smaller libraries. Most of us do not have specific people assigned to reference, or any one section of the library, we need to be able to do it all.

Thing 7-1

I have a problem with this in the work place. In many situations, you run into two extremes. Either you have people who don't know how to even use email or IM or you have the ones that seem to always be in their email and nothing else. How can you create a happy medium?
When I'm at home i do use both of these tools to communicate with friends and family who are spread all over the place. It makes it really convenient to keep in touch and see what is going on. Most of the time at work, I don't have the time to check my mail let alone IM with anyone.

Thing 6 other projects

These could really be fun for the kids. You could have all types of projects for them to do and participate in.

Thing 6 Trading card

This was really fun. I could have some fun with this during the summer with the kids. This is a site that would be useful for many of our teachers also.

More flicker

This I can not really see as being helpful as far as a libraby setting. Playing around with the different applications is fun. I can see where being familiar with them is helpful, but this is one I don't think I will be using that often.

More photo sharing

I am not adding a link to this photo because I did not do this through a flicker account. I have an account on webshots that this photo came from. Is there a way to create a link from this program?

Photo sharing

My three kids. Most of the time they drive me crazy, but I still love them.

RSS

I think I am really going to like this tool. I had no idea you could put your favorite sites into one spot and not hav to keep going back to each of them. This looks like it is going to be a really useful tool.

Why I'm doing 23 things on a stick

I am really excited about learning more of these different tools. I can see how much they are in the lives of our kids now. If we as libraries want to keep up and be a place where they can come for information, we need to have these options available to them. It is also helpful if we know something about these various tools and how they work. I keep thinking about different things I can do at my library to incorporate these. I see kids who come in and use them all the time. Some off them I am comfortable with, but others I don't know really well. I would like to learn them. If not through this project, then maybe working with the kids themselves. Dont be afraid to ask them questions, most of them like to be able to help explain different things to you. It makes them feel like you have an interest in what they are doing.

Doing the avitar was fun. It was a little confusing trying to figure out how to import it to the blog, but thanks to kids I figured that out too.

These "assignments" need to be posted somewhere that they are easily accessible with instructions. I look forward to doing these tasks and learning new programs. It should be fun!
